Cortinarius (Sericeocybe) malachius (Fr. ex Fr.) Fr. s. Kühn. & Romagn. Lederbrauner Dickfuss Cap 4–11cm across, convex then expanded, violaceous-clay at first then pale clay-buff to ochraceous, discolouring tawny ochre, densely covered by the whitish silky veil at first. Stem 40–´10–20mm, swollen to bulbous, pale violaceous at first persisting at apex, elsewhere, becoming dirty white to ochraceous, base with white or violet down; cortina white or pale violaceous. Flesh violaceous at first, stem apex remaining so, elsewhere whitish pallid. Taste and smell faint, pleasant. Gills violaceous at first soon clay then rusty. Spore print rust. Spores elliptic, 5.5µ. Habitat conifer woods. Season autumn. Common. Edibility suspect -avoid. Found In Europe. Photographed by Geoffrey Kibby.
